Think about this . . . . .
If Daya Nayak lived on Rs.9000 a month, would he still be Daya Nayak, the mention of whose very name sends shivers down the spine of the notorious underworld of Mumbai ?
Daya Nayak, by our people’s own admission throughout the last many years, is nothing less than a living legend, a straightforward, fearless police officer who rightly believes that the filth of our society, the underworld criminals are best eliminated, rather than having to arrest them, run trials on them and in the end because of their political clout and money having to leave them, not to mention having spent a considerable amount of public money in the process.
If Daya Nayak, like others in this salary bracket, too was pre-occupied for the major part of his waking life about his financial situation, about having to pay bills, about his kids education and upbringing, about the future of his family, about their financial security, would he still be the fearless, risk-taking hero that the whole media has been singing about all these years ? would he still stick his neck out knowing that each one of his actions would cause some reaction that could jeopardize his & his family’s security ?? Would he still have movies inspired after his life ??
As far as “unaccounted wealth disproportionate to one’s known source of income” is concerned . . . . . let’s face it, it’s a very old and worn out term and can be used equally justifiably on almost every politician, public servant or any person with any sort of conferred authority that we know of today to some degree. Throughout modern history, people in power have used it against their rivals to destroy their careers and power, always in a quest of their own power.
This is exactly what is happening here. There is no doubt that like all front page stories, this one too is not what it looks like. What we will never see or read about in the newspapers is that this whole Daya Nayak maligning episode is most probably orchestrated by one of those unholy nexus of the underworld, politics and possibly his rivals in his own profession.
A police source close to Nayak told this paper, "It's a frame-up by a rival police officer from the Mumbai crime branch and this officer is providing dope to the ACB to put Nayak behind bars." – Times of
Someone somewhere is inconvenienced in his own ambitions by the existence of Daya Nayak in the police force maybe because their own plans and designs must be threatened by him. It’s a pure and simple case of conspiracy against a famous public figure either to get him out of the way or to even some scores. The Anti Corruption Bureau is not necessarily free of corruption. After all its also a government body managed by the same kind of people that make up the rest of our administrative services. And since it has power over powerful people, its bound to attract more corruption than any other authoritative entity.
So they say that Daya Nayak has about Rs.4 crores worth of assets in his and his family’s name, a fact which is yet under dispute. Assuming that he does . . . . So what ??
Each one of us Has seen and heard of bigger, more scandalous disproportionate wealth stories by much much less deserving people in our country.
Daya Nayak has helped clean up our society to an extent no one else within the perimeter of our creaky and leaking law system could do. Time & again even our lawmakers & law guardians have admitted to this. He has averted god knows how many murders, kidnappings, extortions, robberies, rapes and terrorist acts by simply eliminating the instruments of crime and terror. Had he not been in the police force doing his job the way he has been doing, we would have had hundreds of more criminals, underworld gangs and of late even terrorists to deal with. Because each criminal he shot had many nefarious contacts, ideas, ambitions and vendettas. And I think Rs.4 crores worth of wealth, if at all he has it, is a very small price to pay for it. He deserves much more. He has saved our city, the government and the exchequer much more than this in legal administration expenses.
Another bad consequence of this power game, The underworld must be celebrating looking at this stupid drama that the authorities are playing against Daya Nayak. They know well by now that if this is the way
Well, we get what we deserve.
First of all our administration has the worst pay scale in the world for our police force (what’s 9000 rupees a month in a city like Mumbai). And then they compare them to Scotland yard and place great expectations on them. That the Mumbai police is one of the most stressful, pressured and suicide-prone workplace in the world is well known, And when someone in this impoverished and poorly equipped force actually overcomes the limitation and does a heroic job, they methodically and publically destroy him and make him a scapegoat of their double standard and double meaning laws.
There is another accusation on him that he has links with the underworld and is in contact with some underworld elements.
Have you ever heard of professional intelligence? The underworld is not exactly a documented and catalogued industry. They don’t have an industry association nor do they have any kind of yellow pages which lists their member’s contact details. They don’t even have a call center or a website which cops could refer to for information on their whereabouts or their immediate or annual business plans. If cops have to deal with them, they need to have vital information about them, which any idiot knows is guarded with life threatening security by the underworld. How does anyone expect Daya Nayak to eliminate so many criminals and underworld elements without having crucial information about them ? And how do you reckon he would get this information without having links in their very world. Just like the underworld, the law too has to have its links and agents on the under side to keep them updated.
To clean a gutter, you have to get your hands and legs dirty, this is exactly what Daya Nayak has done for us. And today we have reduced this hero to a victim of embarrassment and ridicule. And everyone is laughing, even those that used to idolize him. They have once again proved the old Crab mentality theory that they are a country of crabs. Like crabs in a tank, Neither they themselves want to climb above mediocrity towards greatness nor they will let anyone else amongst them do so. When someone does something above the ordinary, the crabs will pull them down as well to their own level.
We are human beings, not animals or machines, which can be programmed and have predictable requirements and behavior. We are complex beings made up of desires, fears, strengths, egos, ambitions, and reason. This is what makes us human. If anyone thinks that police officers like Daya Nayak should perform their duties with dedication and integrity and rid the society of all evil and crime while being humbly content with their allocated salaries of Rs.9000 a month and should not have any ambitions or concerns about their & their own family’s well being and security, they need to get their heads checked. Life doesn’t work that way.
We have lost a good cop, and a great security cover against the underworld and organized crime because of the stupidity, greed, jealousy and personal ambitions of some people whom we will never know.
